What a show, what a freakin' show! With Kris there it became more
political than most Prine shows, but the timing is right for folks to
express themselves... I spent most of Kris' set watching my wife and
step-daughter wetting themselves. Where are the Depends when you really
need them? It was a true joy seeing the look in their faces watching their
hero perform. No set list here, but the two songs that got the biggest
reaction seemed to be "Silver Tongued Devil" and "Don't Let
the Bastards Get You Down". I have to say even though I was anxious
to see John on stage, Kris' set seemed too short... But of course when Mr.
Prine took the stage I forgot all about the length of Kris' set. John was
in a nostalgic mood having Kristofferson with him. He started the evening
saluting Steve Goodman and kept mentioning him all night. A good thing! Of
course John and Kris were their own mutual admiration society. These two
truly admire and respect each other, with all the reason in the world to
do so. I don't know if I've ever seen John smile on stage as much as he
did Friday night... It was a pleasant surprise when Maura O'Connell came
out and sang "Angel From Montgomery" with John. She has one
beautiful and powerful voice. It was also a treat seeing John's young son
sitting to the left on the stage through most of the show. And it was cool
that John introduced him at the end of the night... "Some Humans
aren't Human" is one of those Prine songs that have you laughing your
ass off one minute and knocked on your ass the next. Only something John
Prine can do. Also John and Kris doing "Great Compromise"
together gave it a feel that I have never felt before. If you didn't know
it before, you knew now, that the song is about war and how wrong it is...

Last night John Prine performed at the 43rd annual Philadelphia Folk
Festival. He was the final act and much anticipated by the crowd. His
demeanor on stage was gentle and pleasant. With a mischievous glint in
his eye, he blew us all away song after song, ending with Lake Marie--an
absolutely stunning number. This show was the first time I ever heard John
Prine play. He is certainly an impressive artist that I hope to see again
      soon.

John Prine concluded the 43rd annual Philadelphia Folk Festival with a
fine set of songs including Blow Up Your TV, Flag Decal, Fish &
Whistle, Souvenirs, Angle From Montgomery, I'm Going For A Walk, some
tribute song to Johnny Cash and June Carter, All The Best and an epic
version of Lake Marie resulting in two broken guitar strings and a large
crowd hungry for more - no encore, sorry. GREAT JOB JOHN!!! It was my
daughter's first Folk Fest and her first seeing you on stage - and we were
in the Photo Pit in the front of the stage loving life - especially
"Fish & Whistle" - that's her favorite song and you nailed
      it!!!

Great set demanding an encore but denied due to PFF's "no
encore" policy left the crowd sour... Don't know the real names of
most things but John played (not in this order): Lake Marie Angel from
Montgomery Carter Family song from new tribute album Flag Decal Song from
forthcoming cd and probably 2 more that I am spacing on. Really great set -
would make a fan out of anyone!

Whatever your politics, J.P. was great and sounded better than ever! His
views are his views. If you disagree with his politics you have a wealth
      of alternatives.

After being a John Prine fan for over 30 years this was my first concert. What a passionate following of fans! He brought the house down, and I think after 2 1/2 hours of music with no breaks, everyone left satisfied. His backup guys were absolutely tremendous, but the best part of the concert is in the middle, where it's just JP and his acoustic guitar. I would have left, turned around and come back in and watched the whole show again if I could have. I hope the touring continues after this one, because I want to experience this again. P.S. Leon Redbone was excellent!!

What a terrific show on Friday night in Reading, Pennsylvania. John
Prine and his band played perfectly to an appreciative audience. Two and a half hours of Prine poetry preceded by Leon Redbone who was also delightful made for a spectacular evening.
