ALBUM TITLE: Souvenirs
RECORD LABEL: Oh Boy Records
PRODUCER: Jim Rooney/John Prine
Being John Prine. If we could all get 15 minutes in this legendary songwriters head it would be the ride of a lifetime. After 30 years of bringing musical bliss to eager listeners worldwide, this living legend isn't done yet.
Souvenirs plays like a personal memoir leading down those old familiar roads to 15 of John's best known, most beloved and cherished classic songs. But true to Prine form, there's naturally a twist. teaming up with longtime collaborator and producer Jim Rooney, Souvenirs, isn't just a compilation of
tunes plucked from various albums. All 15 "Souvenirs" are new studio re-recordings produced in April of 2000 that find John in rare form. The honesty, vulnerability and maturity in his voice permeate every track. Chill bumps won't be uncommon. After a couple of decades of living inside of "Donald & Lydia," "Sam Stone" and "Hello In There," there's no one on earth that could deliver the kind of intimacy that Prine captures. The album was intended for European release only, but at the end of the day when the boys at Oh Boy Records heard the finished disc, in the words of Oh Boy Vice President Dan Einstein, ".it was just too good to not put out in the US." Long time band mates Jason Wilber, Dave Jacques and Phil Parlapiano add their delicious re-interpretations to the mix as well.
Coming quickly on the heels of 1999's In Spite Of Ourselves, Souvenirs is a powerful expression of one of America's greatest writers.
