The start & end of something fine |
Knowing that there were little girls at our hotel Prine party afterwards, John sent his bouquet back to give to them. You should have seen their eyes
get as big as the moon when I told them, "John Prine asked
me to give these to Margaret and her friends" they oohed and ahhhed
and carefully touched and divided
the flowers by colors and count and between the three of
them.. Little Prine fans, all googley and when they grow up, they will find themselves living more and more of his lyrics, how special they were.
Whoa. We multiplied, there was a big crowd at the hotel that took up the
whole center of the place, folks from all over - it was great to put
faces with the names - finally shaking a few hands from folks
like Marty and his wife who might have tried to show up at the civic center
on Saturday had we not corresponded. I haven't quite figured out who was
really related to Mike Winters that night, but for what's it's worth, we
were all related in Prine.
5 count them, there were 5 guitars strumming to favorite Prine songs
and everyone
was making nice, it was the continuation of something wonderful. I headed to
my room to drop off a few things and passed a mean and mad looking shirtless
man, leaning real cocky outside his room, giving an evil
death stare towards our party.
As I sat on the bed, the place went dead silent. Turns out that we had
used up our $33 hotel deal and the hotel reneged on their "glad to
have ya's" or maybe it was shift change and the manager wanted to say
goodnight to the boys in blue, who put an end to what would have been a
spectacular Prine all nighter. Hopefully we can try it again, as the
turnout was great and the music would have gone all night!
A big thanks Mike Winters for putting it together - no matter how hard they tried, these cool round people
couldn't fit in that hotel's little square.
