Name: - Chris White, Artistic Director, Ottawa Folk Festival
Recently, I ran into John Prine's manager/agent, Al Bunetta, at a concert in Ottawa. Because Al's philosophy is that every person is important, he makes a point of answering every inquiry. He says his main responsibility as John Prine's representative is to "look after the people" and he accomplishes this in a friendly, respectful way. Not surprisingly, he looks for these same qualities in the people he deals with.

Name: Ty Hodges
Musta been '88 or so, when JP played the Miami Marine Stadium, opening for & sitting in with Bonnie Raitt, since I've had a chance to attend a show of his. Way too long. I trust the 12/6/03 date at Gusman Hall is gonna happen. A great small venue! Since that 1st show I've gained a Hoosier-born next-door neighbor/fellow fan. We are both stoked. I'll just keep checkin' back to see how things shape up with this tour.

Name: chris jones - atlanta
Sorry to hear that the columbus show got cancelled, but it saves me about 6 hours in my automobile. Now I can concentrate on harvestfest. I can't wait for 9-27...I've never seen him, but I've been listening to him intensely for more than a year now; plus, I've convinced myself that Prine and my dad were best friends in the army in Germany while I was in the womb. Every now and then I'll sound off with some random lyrics, and my family wonders where the heck it comes from, but it gets my points across like no other. I am very excited about Harvest fest, and I have not been able to eat for a week. Fasting for Prine, baby. Only 2 more days and a wake-up.

Name: Paul Stein - LaGrange, GA
We are going to Columbus Ga. friday 26th to see JP. I cannot wait!I have listened to and loved him since I was 16 or so and am 43 now.My wife and I will be there waiting.Like everyone else(I am sure) I try to play and am proud to know by heart just about all(well 3/4) of his songs. My favorite is them all.

Name: Michele Kirsch - NJ
I saw John years ago in Princton NJ (of course). After the concert Bonnie Raitt and John walked into the same restaurant that my then boyfried (now husband) and I went to. To me and Alan (husband) it was very exciting to see John up close and personal. We also loved Bonnie, so that was an even better night!!! That's all. But anyway, I really like John's "Flag Decal" song. I sing it at campfires and other things. All of his songs are the best and I mean the best!!! Wish we could see him again!

Name: mike winters

I E-MAILED JOHN TWICE THINKING THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THAT HE WOULD GET OR BE ABLE TO GRANT MY REQUEST TO PLAY "LINDA GOES TO MARS" BUT HE DID AND IT MADE THE NIGHT FOR MY SISTER LINDA. A BIG THANKS TO JOHN FOR BEING SUCH A GREAT PERFORMER. YOU MADE IT A NIGHT TO REMEMBER FOR LINDA AND I. THANKS AGAIN

I have a friend who played me your music for the first time about four years ago and took me to your concert at Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto. I may have the years mixed up but it was certainly after 1999 or 2000. I was at the Land Mines concert at Massey Hall ... the concert I am talking about was before then ... I am in Toronto ... I have never been to a concert where everyone knew every song you had recorded and seemed to be calling for all of them ... and you played as many of them as you could in a night. Although I discovered your music long after you started recording, you have been an inspiration to me and I would really love to see you play in concert again especially in Toronto - your agent should book more than one night thought, because there are a lot of us out here.

Name: Tom Hugunin - KS, USA
We saw John in Lawrence, KS March '03 with who was probably one of my best friends - he died in may '03. That was the best Prine I'd seen. It is etched in my mind forever...hope he gets close to us this fall

I had the pleasure of meeting John Prine either 71 or 72. My good friend, Dan Gleason, was in charge of booking concerts at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dan and I, and two others picked John up at the airport the day of the concert. Bonny Raitt was his opening act, but she was due on a later flight. We took him to his motel to check in and after convincing the clerk that even though he was unemployed at that moment, he had a promising lead on future employment. John doesn't know he got the last laugh on her rudeness because the big tornado of 1975 that hit Omaha completely destroyed the motel. Fortunately no one was hurt at the motel. We then took him to lunch at a popular Italian Restaurant at John's request. It was one of the most enjoyable days of my life and will always remember John's story-telling and most notably his genuine personality. I already owned every record he made up to then so I was already a devoted fan. So now when I talk about John Pri! ne or his music I always refer to him as "my good friend" John Prine. Unfortunately I had to work that night so I had to rush over to the concert so I could see at least some of the concert. Some years later John came back to Omaha (mid 80s) and the concert was billed John Prine with Arlo Guthrie. My girlfriend (now Mrs. Powers) and I were working at the local race track and went to the concert after work. Foiled again, John was the opening act and Arlo Guthrie came on last. Go figure!! We were able to catch about 2/3's of the concert so we are now planning to go to Cerrito, Ca. for his Oct. 17th show so tell "my good friend" John Prine not to start until we get there. I work at a local casino and have gotten several of my co-workers to listen to his music and they are now loyal JP fans. Looking forward to Oct. 17th, "Your good friends Capt.Bob and Corrine Powers Las Vegas NV.

John, Thanks for coming to Portsmouth, Virginia, tonight. Please come back really soon. It was such a pleasure having your excellent band, wonderful inspiring songs, terrific duet with Nanci Griffith and your classy act. I am so thrilled that I do not have to travel to New Jersey/New York to hear my favorite kind of music. Next time, please come back with Iris DeMent! Thanks, it was a very pleasurable evening.

Name: Gaye Burroughs - Laurens, SC
I saw John Prine at the Peace Center in Greenville SC for the first time. He is now my favorite performer. I listen to his CD's all the time. My cousin Ben Senn cooked a Pig and we got to go back stage and meet this great guy and eat with him. Wish he would come back to the Peace Center.

My Prine Story began approximately 25 years ago, after leaving Ottawa, Canada to head for the sunshine in San Diego, CA. To make a long story short, I made many friends while in San Diego, but only one stands above all the rest, is a my dear friend Jerry. He was a true gift from God...so giving, so kind, and so dear to all. I gave him one of your CD's and we shared it constantly amongst friends. A week later he got killed in a car crash with his dear Lynn on their way to Las Vegas. So, you see, whenever I hear your sweet music, my dear friend is with me once again. I was at the Hartwood outdoor concert....right up front....screaming with such happiness....you took my breath away then....just like you always have. You are a true gift....thank you for a memory that will remain with me always...

Oooh yes, and with Mars being so close, it would be timely. I vote for him to play "Linda Goes To Mars" too, I vote for him to play a totally different show than the one in Peoria. Like shake up that set list man and mix the really old with the really new. Great idea, Linda Goes to mars, please John - do it for Linda!

Name: George Tucker
I became a J.P. fan during college at David Lipscomb College in Nashville during the late 70's. My first concert was at the Exit Inn with less than 100 people. The opening act was Paul Craft (Drop Kick Me Jesus). J. P. was lead to the stage and propped up on a stoll. They put on his guitar and light up a smoke. He looked at the audience and started struming Level Headed Dancer. The night was complete. It was by far the best of my J.P. concerts. Somewhere around 1983, I was working at an appliance store selling TV's,VCR's and applicances. In walks J.P. with his new bride. I approced John and worked the deal to sell him a new Maytag Washer and Dryer. We sat there for over an hour talking music. How nice to sit with the legend and talk lyrics. 1990 rols around and I find myself in a DIVORCE. Well the missing years provided me with the very good by letter to my EX. 1991 I am living in Memphis and sitting in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel when in walks J.P. I stop him and buy a glass of wine. I reminded John of the Maytag deal from 1983 and share with him the divorce letter. There again, a legend stops to visit while he is waiting to Keith Sykes. This man is a true down to earth person who enjoys his fans. The last in person performance was at a Bonnie Rait concert where he did a duet with Bonnie on Angle from Montgomery. JOHN IF YOU READ THIS PLEASE WRITE A SONG THAT TALKS ABOUT YOUR MAYTAG WASHER AND DRYER BEING LEFT TO YOU AFTER YOUR DIVORCE. THE STORY WOULD MAKE FOR A GREAT SONG.

Name: Sarah, CA
When I was a kid, my now deceased uncle introduced us to John Prine's music. My four brothers, my parents and I would listen to "Bruised Orange" for seven hours while we travelled in our extendo-van to visit grandparents. My whole family absolutely loves your music and I can't tell you how many memories I have with JP's music playing in the background. -OUTSTANDING! Thank you.

Name: Peter Schroeder Waterloo Canada
I've seen John many times in concert but my favorite was a number of years ago in Toronto at Ontario Place. At that time the stage was shaped in a circle and the stage turned slowly as he performed. At one point during the concert he stopped singing and of course every one else in the audience was still singing at the top of their lungs. John said: "thats alright, most all of my songs were meant to be sung around a campfire"

Name: Scott Imboden - Melbourne Victoria, Australia
Howdy all, I've been a fan for years and saw him play in 1989-90 in St.Louis MO. when I was visiting the states. What would be REALLY, REALLY good would be for him to come down to Australia sometime in the near future. John has quite alot of fans here in Melbourne as there is a healthy roots/country movement here. Here's hoping!

As an aside, I am sorry we don't get Nancy Grifith, also at our concert. I saw him with the Cowboy Junkies and I think the songs he wrote for them were great. Great band. I love Nancy Griffith, great song writer, great singer. He knows how to pick them!

Name: Susan Harris - Boswell, PA
No story, sent in all of mine from the past 20 years! Request - can this get to him? I will see him next Sunday at Hartwood Acres, PA. I would like to meet him and have him sign my son's Navy Gad. picture. Before I ever heard him sing, I was a pregnant Marine in Okinawa, Japan, way back in 1982, a very lonely, only female Marine in my Division. My husband (also a Marine) sang John's song's to my belly, that's how I first heard him. That belly came to be my son, Leon, who grew up the first two years of his life having never heard John sing, but heard his songs from what we sang to him as lullabies. That son is now 20 years old and stationed in New York as a Nuclear Engineer in the Navy. Growing up with John's song's, it didn't change his life, but I think it helped to shape the person he became to be. He listens to some music I will never understand, but, he still knows every word to every John Prine song he ever heard and he still listens to John. To this day, "Spanish Pipedream" and "Muhlenburg County" are still his two favorite songs. I will be at Hartwood Acres next Sunday in Pittsburgh to listen to the Master Songwriter and Storyteller yet again for the third time. If you could forward this to him, my son would love to have something autographed from him. He has never been in the right place at the right time to see him. But he still knows everything about the man and loves his music. I will be fortunate enough to see him yet again (which never gets old, even if we do), but I would love the opportunity for a picture and an autograph for the "kid". Every person I have ever met in the last 20 years either introduces me to John Prine or I introduce them. Until this past year, I have NEVER met a soul who didn't fall in love with his music. My 72 year-old mother even listens to him! But I met a band of three people (one of whom, unfortunately,is my brother, and a musician) who actually DON'T like HIM. One of them will be going to the concert with me, if not all of them. I will convince them, because, besides his music, John Prine, live is the best I have ever seen in my life. Please see if you can get this to John, it would mean a lot to my son. He's like me, we love the guy! Sincerly, Susan Harris

I've had the opportunity to see John play in Jacksonville at the Florida Theater on three separate occasions in the past five years. I am kicking myself in the butt for not checking him out as far back as the 70s when my late friend Tim Nolan turned me on to John for the first time. I was hooked from the very first time I heard the lyrics. Other than Tim and I, we only knew a few friends that had ever even heard of John. When I listen to his lyrics I can virtually see the picture he has painted. I try to write lyrics myself, but I think I want to much to write like John to ever be satisfied by anything less then he would. Anyway John, I doubt you ever read the ramblings scribbled on this page, but if you would ever consider reading some of my attempts at being John like, just e-me at darrjs@jea.com, or jamestideview@aol.com Hope all is well with you, the group, and all the people that make your concerts such a joy. I don't know....but I have been A John Prine fan since...aw hell, do I gotta give away my age??...let's put it this way....since I was a rock and roller back in early 70's. I love almost all his stuff. His wit and humor and pure simple writting style has always moved me one way or 'nuther. I am writting this note because 1) I have been meaning to write Prine for years now, and 2)I just love to death his Duet CD, "In Spite of Ourselves" What a great throw back to when country music music and not glitter. Back to the "Hank" feeling and the Roger Miller grace. The ladies are just beautiful in there. John has his normal smile-in-his-voice, but them womens make the old bird sound so much better. HA! The last thing I want to say (for now)is this: Will John PALEEEEZE do anuther one much like it? I would but him a drink (buy his CD) iffins he would. ~ You brother in arms, Toon

Would someone please tell John Prine that I love his words? They bring me joy, they jolt my brain, they soothe and surprise me. The words are good. I feel at home when the door's propped with a broom. Please will someone thank him for sharing my life? ~Anonymously yours, A Fan

1st, I'm glad I found this website, and thanks for running it. I met John in 1974, backstage in Tulsa,OK. A friend and I were serious Prine fans and drove over from Arkansas to offer adulation. John was opening for George Carlin but stole the show, as many there had not heard much of him before. In the 29 years since, I've never heard one person with a guitar weave the whole audience into a spell, the way he did that night. It was as though we were sitting around the campfire with a very talented loving friend, listening to him pour his heart out. I've seen many performers since, but none that evoked the wit, depth of feeling, and sincere individuality that John manages. I guess I'm still chasing that high. When he finished and went back stage, my friend and I managed to sneak backstage. John was sitting quietly alone in his dressing room. We peeked in and he should have told us to go to Hell. Instead he let us come in and he offered us a beer. So, while George Carlin was performing we sat in the dressing room drinking Rolling Rock with John as he told us about life on the road, and women, and Viet Nam and Republicans. He was friendly and humble and as genuine as anyone I've met. I sure wish I could drink another beer with him now, or see him in person again.

Name: DB - Southern USA
This may be about 6 months late, but I can't remember if I ever told you about our JP concert in New Orleans. The show was postponed until December 7th, and I work retail. December is pretty much of a blur most years. I had sent in a request for "Fish and Whistle", as my daughter (now 17) used to run through the house singing "again, again, again" as a toddler. It was the third or fourth song in the set, I'm surprised that John couldn't hear her singing along on the "agains"! We both enjoyed the concert tremendously. I have seen him twice before, in Houston at a club by himself, and in Little Rock with a band and Bonnie Raitt as the opening act. There were several songs I hadn't heard live before, and we are really looking forward to hearing the new material on an album. Please send along my thanks, If the song was planned as part of the set, Lindsey thought it was just for her. Thanks again, D.B.

Name: pougles - Tennessee
JP has been my favorite artist for many years, ever since his first album. I have seen him several times in a few states, Tennessee, Virginia, Ohio and Indiana in particular. I have met many of the more notorious prine fans, 50+ of them at Wogstock in '97. The first time I attended one of his presentations was when he toured with Arlo Guthrie. I have three children and a step-son, all grown now but still Prine fans. All of them have attended at least one JP show with me and my daughter and son-in-law have attneded several and asked me today when he was going to be near. That is why I am in here at the moment, checking the schedule. For any of those fans out there that have a difficult time finding his music on the airwaves, we have a local station here in Tennessee, near Knoxville, that plays not only John's music, but a lot of other great music with a varied format, everything from downhome mountain music to Celtic, blues, bluegrass, Americana at it's best, and much more. It is available online at www.wdvx.com. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Reeda for the work that I know she has put into keeping the Shrine going and for her hospitality when we have shared concerts. WOGSTOCK will always be remembered, as will the beers we shared in Nashville at Tootsie's bar. Memories, they can't be boughten......

Name: Shay McDonough Dublin Ireland
Well Reeda, i am sure you are not surprised to see this one appearing here. In 1972 I was in the Universal folk club in Dublin, it was for amateur singers and songwriters, one got up and san Hello In There and Sam Stone, bought the LP the next day, and have bought all of the LP's since, I got so sad at one stage that I even orderd from the US as they were not available here at the time, as I have said before, a lot of my musical friends use to pull my leg about being a JP fan, but you know something, I have them singing the songs now, one local band on the north side of Dublin (Mulligan) want the lyrics of the Speed of the Sound plus Take a Look at My Heart, which a great number for harmonies, will be travelling over to the States at the end of next year for a holiday (vacation in american) and hopefully meet up with one or twenty JP fans, have only attended 5 JP live concerts and met the man once over a jar in the Gaiety, pleasent quiet guy, the most important aspect for me is the lyrics, and if I never meet him again or see him in concert that's OK, just keep on writing, finally my wife and my friends wife were a bit put out with the lyrics of the Other Side of Town, but could not get angry with John as he had that cheeky grin on his face, when he sang in the Oplympia and the Point here in Dublin, when it is released i am going to have great fun singing it live.

Name: Dave Ferry-Williamsport
My brother Ron came home from college during X-mas in 1980....at college he discovered Dylan, The Dead, Bromberg, and of course John Prine among many other great artists....I immediately ate it up and by the time I got to 8th grade I knew the words to every Prine song...My 8th grade teacher Ms. Carmichael was a Prine fan, and her boyfriend played his tunes, so when I came into class singing Sam Stone she was quite impressed....needless to say many an evening of philosophical discussion has taken place over the lyrics of my favorite Prine tunes....today I had a few of my civics students analyze "Flag Decal"......they really thought i was nuts, but I couldn't think of a more appropriate song to make them think about the current state of affairs today!

Name: Lowell MacDonald
I saw John two years in a row in Halifax, N.S.. That was about 15 years ago. I'm a huge fan and was wondering when he might be back in the great white north eh?

Name: Kathy
I'm going to be at the Newport Folk Fest and am so excited that you're going to be there. My Prine Story...I was at the taping of The Sessions at W54th show and was in the front row right behind you,(John!). It was a great show and such an intimate setting, your music and the fantastic group of musicians w/ you really moved me. I told everyone I knew what a great performance it was. When some friends and I watched the show all we could look at was me--practically flailing back and forth, especially to "Lake Marie". I still get kidded and asked how I got you to do the soundtrack for my video because every time I replay it becomes all about me. Thanks for a great time!

Name: Brenda W. Hill - Alabama, USA
I have only two CDs by John Prine, but I love his singing! Until his CD came out entitled "Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings," to be quite honest, I had never heard of him. I own that particular CD and "Prime Prine, The Best of John Prine." I saw him once on Austin City Limits. I live in Oxford, AL, about 50 miles from Birmingham, which I hear has a big "John Prine" fan club. I would like to own all his "records;" however, when one is retired, the budget is tight. God Bless and Good Health from a young 60 yr old fan. -- P.S. Thanks for helping me get to sleep at night. I listen to your music until I get sleepy. You are indeed, a great writer as well.

Name: Glad Raimey, Punta Gorda, FL
I just read this in Sports Illustrated and thought you might like to read it: Word on the street is that Darlington might lose its Labor Day weekend date, which, if true, would be utterly moronic. Venerable scribe Monte Dutton, who has a fine taste in music, suggested that if NASCAR moves the race, the punishment they should endure would be to have John Prine write a song (NASCAR: The Missing Years?) about them. Great reference to a great song, which if you haven't heard you should go find right now.

Name: Tom Dunlap - Minneappolis, MN
Thanks for the note. That picture brought back, mostly :) , good memories from practice! John has good form in that picture. (the ARCHIVES high school photo of John on the side horse) There are few people that I've heard that can put words together like John. He's been a favorite since listening to him in the chalk filled gym back in '71. My brother was a gymnast too, eight years after me. When I wrote to him about the pic he wrote back telling me that I shared the "JP" album with him and he enjoyed the music but he was also very into "Yes" at the same time. I'm going to drop a note to our old coach too. Dan will appreciate the picture. I listened to "John Prine" and "Sweet Revenge" so much that the album is getting a little gray from the needle use. I have all of the Scratches and bumps memorized and expect to hear them whenever I hear the album. Tommy Mischke is a radio host here http://www.am1500.com/ in Minneapolis who has a pretty good show. He uses "Dear Abby" to set up his take-offs on letters to Abby. You made my day!

Name: Donna Harris, NC, USA

Jim and I have three chidren, and as all parents, sometimes wonder if we are doing a good enough job as their parents. Our questions were answered when one day in the car all three sang in harmony, word for word, a John Prine tune "Lake Marie"... They ask to play his cd's all the time. How great it is to have something this wonderful to share with our kids, 7, 9, and 12!

I live in Northern Maine. My husband and I have been fans for a few years. When we saw John at Wolf Trap last year, we had a chance to talk with him after the show. We gave him an autographed copy of a magazine with a story that my husband wrote. It was my husband's last trip as he's since had several major health problems and is now in a nursing home. I came down to Concord, NH in April of this year to see John play and as my brother and I were coming out of our motel, John was just getting out of his vehicle. I told my brother and he dragged me over and "introduced" me to him. I mentioned that we had met at Wolf Trap and given him a magazine and he asked what the name of it was. I told him and he said that he had read the story and liked it. We talked a few minutes and then left. We saw the show, which was wonderful, and went back to the motel for the night. The next morning my brother and I were going back to my hometown to visit relatives and discovered that my van wouldn't start. While we were waiting for a miracle to get both of us home, John came out of the motel. I went over to him and asked him if he would autograph a CD for me and he agreed. The CD is one I have made of copies of all his CDs and I have named it "John Prine Radio." I keep it in my van and play it when I want some music as we only get country music up here. Then I asked him for a favor for my 85 year old friend Hannah, would I give him a kiss for her? She really likes his music and had wanted to go to the concert, but had fallen and hurt her knee. He opened his arms and we traded kisses on the cheek. I thanked him and told him Hannah would be thrilled. I left him then, but have a memory that will always be special to me. When I got home, I delivered the kiss to Hannah, who was delighted to hear the story, but told her that the hug was mine to keep. Thank you to John for giving me a very special moment, one that I'll always remember and was worth sharing with all his fans on this site, Mary Coburn, AKA Mary From Maine

I was in Nashville 2 eeks ago at the opryland hotel (too sterile) and I was talking with the lead guitarist of the house band. I asked if he played any Prine and he said no (rarely do i find someone who does). I confirmed he knew who JP was was and he said of course - in fact shops at the same grocercy store as him. I told him I was fortunate enough to meet him a few weeks back and I was so impressed with him and commented to the guitarist - that JP is so down to earth - his comment was - Heck no man - the guy IS EARTH!

After 28 years, finally got to see the Great Man himself here in little old Concord, NH this past weekend...whew, what a treat! A true one-of-a-kind...2-1/2 hours...played Sam Stone and Dear Abby, that was all I needed...supremely talented bandmates... If I'd tripped across Todd Snider somewhere else on his own, would have thought his witty stories and lyrics reminded me of John Prine. I'll never forget the audience...sort of reminded me of going to a good friend's funeral and discovering a big crowd of fellow mourners...coming to the realization that I was but one of many who've been touched by this man...God that John has a lot of good friends!...had to share him afterall, but didn't mind because 99% of them appreciated him as much as I did, and seemed like nice people to boot. Don't usually do this, but waited about an hour afterwards to meet him out back (hint: look for the rental vehicle!), and say "Hi, thanks for coming up here"...and that I'd been hooked ever since seeing him on PBS (on "Soundstage", John said after pondering a moment) following a '75 Super Bowl party...when I said to myself and buddies, "Who is this guy?", and have been mesmerized ever since. John exceeded my expectations, both onstage and in-person...and from reading others' comments here, it happens all the time. Hell, he couldn't write those great lyrics if he wasn't a down-to-earth guy, could he? We are all fortunate to have his music and thought provoking words in our lives. Thanks again, John. Hope to catch you again, but let's make it sooner than later...some of us probably don't have another 28 years to go!

I started listening to John Prine because a guy who was a friend of my dad's (quite older than me) that I used to go home and pick with, used to say to me when i would play and sing songs, that I wrote you sound and write like John Prine, but I had never heard of John Prine, so i never paid him any attention. When i did i was hooked... well let me say this about my music: I went out and got a job and bought a guitar when I was 13 - after I heard Steve Earle do "Guitar Town". Then I got into Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, and so on. To make a long story long I have had a different love of music and now I turn everyone into Prinies.

Though he's probablly too big a name, i think it would be awsom if Mr. Prine played with Dave Alvin in the Acoustic music series. I've seen some great guys play, Alvin, Chris Smithers, and several others. It's a great venue, and the folks payin to see it are those who really appreciate the genius that comes out of artists like Mr. Prine

I've written over 400 original songs, and the only covers I ever played was by John Prine. He has such a magical, natural, bring everybody together kind of artist. I am very proud to say I've been influenced by 'Prine Time'

I have seen J. many times in Ireland, and have spoken to him on 2 ocassions, the first I dont care to mention , but it does make a good story. The last was backstage in Derry in August 2002 where I had my pic taken with him, and chatted to the band back in the hotel later(unfortunately John was tired and went straight to bed, which broke my heart as I had my fiddle with me and was hoping to accompany him in a sing-a-long, and had my wife, Angela primed -or should I say prined, with the camera) Anyway, I recently had one of those "For Real" dreams, and in it, I was hanging out with John and Kris Kristofferson, and after we had a laugh making lunch together in my kitchen (Which for some reason had been transported to half way between Kentucky and Nashville, ...from Northern Ireland), then we went to visit Johnny Cash, who despite his health was full of the mad joys of spring, and was at a peak of humour. This is why I encourage people to sleep more....who needs narcotics? All I need is a bottle of Beaujolis and a quarter pound of mouldy french cheese, and I'm tripping big time! I hope you're right about a new album. We are due another major fix! Thank you for all your dedicated work in keeping the shrine alive. You are one of the worlds unsung heroes...sorry, I can't spell heroines!

Hello there, and thanks for the info. I live in Florida, but I already have my flight booked for New England in April. I plan to go to both shows, RI and NH. There are 7 people booking tickets for Concord. I can't wait. I have never seen John at a concert. I have many taped shows that I watch over and over again.....I just love him. Thanks again

Because the national TV has become a semi-governmental agency, the multi-millionaire "talking heads" on the nightly news spewing war and hatemongering, Fox Fascist preach intolerance and masageny every Sunday morning,I sugest Mr. Prine sponser a national "Blow Up Your Tv Day". This would not have to be an actual blow up, that might be dangerous letting stuff into the air, but it could be a net activity with people donating to a cause to improve Free Press. I'm open on some parts of the idea yet but the purpose is to draw attention that the media in this country has turned to shit. A program could be written for computer, it could be in a theatre with people paying a buck to go in push a dynamite plunger to see a TV in the desert go up in a nuclear cloud. Along with the re-release of a single. What or who is playing on the TV could be selected from a computer menu, it could be therapeutic or it could have a word band reading "Fight for Peace, F**k for Virginity", "Big Brother Is Watching", with a picture of John Poindexter, "Pigs Will Not Sleep In Beds, With Sheets", with picture of the Linclon Bedroom. Think of the possiblities. Well, think about. For other illegal thoughts Oh yeah, thanks for being there

When my youngest daughter was three I went to pick her up from pre-school one afternoon. The lady who ran the place wanted to talk to me. She asked me if everything was okay at home. I told her yes and asked why she wanted to know. She said that Emily had been saying some "strange things". I asked her what and she said it was something about a hole in her daddy's arm where all the money goes. Since then Emily has been with me to see John twice and if he ever comes to South Carolina again we'll go back. Great show.

The first time I saw John Prine was at Chicago's Navy Pier in the 70's when they had Chicago Fest under Mayor Bilandic or Jane Byrne, he was with the Famous Potatoes band. My dad worked with his brother Dave, I believed he played bass in his band for awhile. Well, after that concert I was hooked on his music. We often would go to see him in Woodstock, no not New York, Woodstock, Illinois at the Opera House, he usually played in November. My dad was able to give his brother an album (yes album) and we had it autographed, the only bummer, it was addressed to Dennis, my husband instead of me! Oh Well! He's still Great!!!

Sixteen years ago this month, my husband, Mark and I and my sister-in-law, Ann and her husband Marvin, thought we were sitting on top of the world...John Prine, our favorite musician and storyteller was going to be in concert nearby and we had tickets! For years we had wanted the chance to see John live, but with Mark and I farming, we seldom travel more than a few hours from home. As fate would have it, we were never to make it to that show. Mark & I were getting ready to turn in for the night (about 11:30) when our phone rang. It was the worst call of our lives. Ann's only child, Jim, who was getting ready to graduate from High School, had collapsed at home. Ann, being a nurse, had preformed CPR on her son til the paramedics arrived. They worked on him til the Air Care (helecoptor) arrived. Jim was pronounced dead at the University Hospital at 12:05 the morning of the concert. I still have the four tickets. I know that John Prine is coming to CR next month but, farming being what it is today, luxuries such as concerts are long a thing of the past. Maybe someday times will be better and John will again preform close enough that we can finally go see him. Jim would have wanted us to go. And John Prine is still our favorite! Randi

Sue from Philadelphia says she first saw John Prine she thinks in 1978 at a free concert at Penns Landing. Well, John did play a free concert at Penns landing in July 1978 along with Emmylou Harris and others. I remember it because I was there - another long haired hippie, sort of rough looking 17 year-old guy over from the UK spending the summer touring the States with a friend. I remember it was a hot day and we sat, later stood and then danced through the afternoon and early evening. I know we arrived in NYC a couple of days before 4th July but moved on to Philadelphia in time for the 4th July celebrations, so I guess the concert was most likely on Saturday or Sunday 8th/9th July 1978 or possibly the weekend following. Fond, if rather hazy, memories of Philadelphia - particularly the sight of the fireflys out at night in their thousands in that huge park in the city. Only sorry that I can't recall bumping into a young shapely girl called Sue! Would be grateful to know who else played there that day.

Reeda, Hello In There! Great site. I just got Harrisburg tickets by calling The Forum direct. (I panicked when I saw that Ticketmaster was sold out!) I live in Hershey which is 9 miles from Harrisburg and saw that John was going to be at the Forum in the Sunday newspaper. I saw the TV special with Iris Dement and am so glad I was now able to order the DVD. I am a fan from way back and will at last get to see John live. My wife and I are pumped! Great to be a part of your fine group! I use John's lyrics in day to day life as various things pop up, and most people have no idea what I'm talking about!

I have GREAT NEWS. A friend bought us tickets and we are going to see John tonight at E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron, Ohio. It will be my first time to see him. I recently turned this friend onto John and like a miracle, he scheduled to play here and we got tickets!!! THANK YOU so much for the great work you are doing to promote John and his work. How do we mount a campaign to get John into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...he deserves to be right there next to Johnny Cash and so many others people think of as country, but are as rockin' as they come. :-)

In these current times where the right seems to be kill'in whats left of the left I take much solace in John's music especially 'I ain't hurt'in nobody'. Gods love the man and his music. Rock on brothers and sisters.

My family and I had the real pleasure of seeing John in concert on March 1st at the Kirby Center in Wilkes Barre Pa. He is as great as ever! He mentioned during the show that his first performance in Wilkes Barre was about 23 years ago in a "train car",actually it was a former train station. My sister and I were so happy when he mentioned this because we were in the audience that night and have been fans ever since.

I am a longtime fan and listener. A friend turned me on to John Prine in the mid-seventies. John Prine "Live" in fact and yes I still have it and its not for sale! John's music and words have had a big influence on me. John and I look at life from the same vantage point. My favorite song? A 3 way tie Sam Stone, The Accident and Illegal Smile :)

Name: Susan Harris - Boswell, PA
I've already sent you my stories. I still feel you need to come back out and sing for the masses. Not just writing for someone else, they are more powerful coming from you. I'm listening to "Angel from Montgomry" right now. I love Bonnie Raitt, but this was still your song. I kyou have been through a lot of shit and at least you can get it out with your songs. Most of us can't, that's why we listen to you. I'm now listening to "Jesus, the Missing Years" (my brother makes great CDs geared especially to me), What I am trying to say, is this generation WILL listen to you. I listened to you, it made a difference! My Vietnam friends listened to you, it made a difference! My son has known your music since before he was born! You CAN make a difference with this generation! My son's favorite song other than "Spanish Pipedream" (which for us it wasn't a pipedream, we did it), is Mulenburg County. We lived that. I grew up in West Viginia, I saw it first hand. Our Country needs a BIG BAND-AID, you can help with that! You have been through a lot, there's no question of that. But, we need you! You took up the job of master songwriter, you have to finish the job, no matter what. We need to hear your voice again, clear as day, as it used to be! Semper Fi and God Bless my son as a Sailor! I thought I was privlaged to hear your music 20 years ago. I read the e-mails sent to you. They have much better stories than me. I just have always loved you from the day I was introduced to you songs until now. I have introduced your music to everyone I have run into to people who did know you (what a shame). You have influenced me, greatly. I can't wait to see you again. Thank you, Sue

Name: Stan Laundon, Spain
You will probably remember me as being the person from Spain who flew to Newcastle in December, 2001, to see John in concert. It was always a dream of mine to see and meet him - which I did. My wife suggested that I fly to the UK as I might not get the chance again for a long while. It was a good visit for me for two reasons. One I saw JP in concert and spent some time with my sister who I hadn't seen for some years. As it turned out this was the last time I saw her. She has since died and although I flew back to the UK for the funeral, I never did see her again. So I have my wife to thank for making me fly to the UK in the first place - just because John Prine was in concert. If it hadn't have been for him I would not have seen my sister again. Thanks JP. Stan Laundon, Ex-BBC Radio Cleveland, England. Now in Spain. http://www.stanlaundon.com

As he's done for many years, Mr. Prine spent his Labor Day weekend with his family for a their family reunion. Usually on Saturday or Sunday night, he sits by the pool with a small group of friends and family. He talks, performs, drinks gallons of booze, and has a great time. My best friend's grandparents own the Lodge, so we kinda "crash" the party every year by sitting and watching him play. We are not invited so I feel bad crashing the party, but to get a chance to listen to the greatest songwriter ever is something I can not pass up. Last year he even signed my guitar. It is a unique and amazing experioence and has made Labor Day my favorite holiday. Thanks Mr. Prine.

Name: Susan, Boswell, PA
John, I have known your words before I ever heard your music. My son was born in 1983 in Japan of two Marine parents. One knew who you were, the other didn't. My son grew up to lullibies's of "Spanish Pipe Dream", "Paradise", "Angel from Montgomery and "Illegal Smile", before I ever knew your music. By the time Leon was two, he knew every John Prine song ever written, with music by that time. I was lucky enough to see you in concert in 1993 in Phoenix with the Cowboy Junkies, who I still think are fantastic. Very small venue and every age group was represented to see you. My son is in the Navy now, stationed near Charleston, South Carolina. I have been fortunate to see you at least once. If you have a concert coming up near where he is, I would like to know, so I can get him tickets. We may be a Military family, but we are not killers. Your music left a deep impression on all of us. Especially on me and what I taught my son. I think it is time to come back into the music world with your songs and your lyrics and your voice to maybe make a difference again. You certainly made a difference to this Marine circa 1983 with a brand new baby to whom I sang your songs that I had never heard the music to before. I guess all I can say is come back, John Prine, come back! Are you coming to Pittsburgh, PA, or Charleston, SC? We miss you! Ten years in the Marines and I don't want to watch my son die in the Navy unless he knows why. You were one of my saving graces when that child was born and I had such high hopes for him, college, not the military and he chose the military. My son chose his path and I am very proud of him, but I also know he is like me, he cannot kill another human being unless provoked beyond measure. My son has two singers he still listen to even though he is 20 and listening to things I can't even pronounce. You and the other songs he listened to while he was a baby was David Allen Coe. I hope this gets to you, I'm not really asking for anything. I just wanted you to know that my son is now 20 years old in the Navy and I sang him a lot of you songs while he was still in the womb and he still loves you. He's a good kid in spite of all this. And you really did help a lot. I don't ask you to play God, far from it, as you know. You sing songs from the heart and what you believe in. Once I actually heard your music, I knew. I still listemn to you at least once a week and when Leon comes home, we still sing all your old songs as we drive through the farm country of southwestern PA. The music stays the same, no matter where we live.

John, your music sounds like you were born and raised just up the road. Come on out here and I'll show you why. You were made for us and we were made for you. Be careful John. Once you try our good ol' Canadian beer, the lobster and our down home hospitality, you might never leave.

Name: Angie-CapeBreton, Canada
While visiting in Edmonton, Alberta this fall I had the opportunity to attend my first John Prine concert. After the concert my friends (fellow Capers) and I we drove around the back of the hall to see if we could catch a glimpse of John. Fortunatly, his manager was outside and we were able to arrange for a quick chat, photo and autograph session. When I asked John to sign my shirt he told me to turn around and instead of using the table beside me he signed the shirt right on my back. It was such an awesome night, one I will never forget. I was able to tell him how much we love him in Cape Breton and how many nights and early morning parties his music has blessed us with. He was so kind and patient. I can't wait to see him again!

The Melborn Public House, White Abbey Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom are having a John Prine Birthday Bash on Wednesday 9th October 2002. Many local musicians will be playing their favourite John Prine songs with the man himself on the jukebox in-between. Glasses will be raised at midnight to wish John a Happy Birthday

I have been a John Prine fan for 30 years, saw him in concert this year in New London,Ct. My wife and I enjoyed the show. It was 2 1/2 hours of non stop music, preceded by Todd Snider. It was the first time in over 10 years we had see John live. Last time was at the Newport Folk festival. He just keeps getting better. Theres always a John Prine CD in my car, I never get tired of listening to him. Thanks again

Name: Mike Gubbins, Chicago and London
I wish I new earlier about the big Prine fan club here in the UK. I would have loved to make the gig tomorrow night up in Bradford. John was my letter carrier and I worked with his brother Dave. My older brother actually worked with John as a letter carrier. I'm also a musician but have to keep the day job. I was away at college when John made his breakthrough. They were crazy times in the states back then. Got allot of stories maybe we'll catch up some day. I'm a little embarassed to say so, but I did recommend to John when he stoped at the house for a coke when he was delivering the post, that he keep his day job rather than playing folk clubs. He was married and had a kid and it seemed like he was taking a big risk.

Name: Lucia North Carolina. Home of Chuck & Jeanne Arrowood who are Prine fans from way back.
I met John once in the parking lot of Charlotte Ovens auditorium as he was standing outside his bus. He treated me right even though I did interrupt his solitude after putting on a great show. Please thank him for his kind hand shake and smile as well as all those great songs we have enjoyed over the years!

Amazing how events and music appear to have the most impact on people in their late teenage years and early twenties. I'm curently 54 and was born in a small town in Kentucky not far from the mines, and lived there until 1965. I lived in Chicago from 1965 to 1967. (Remember that era, The Democratic Convention, Riots, Protests, and certainly Vietnam) I've lived in Wisconsin since 1967. Very often now I'll play one of your CD's. I'm listining to one as I write these comments. Your music certainly takes me back to the times in my past. Sam Stone and Flag Decal remind me of the two years of my life spent in Chicago, and a few years after. I'm listing to Paradise right now as I write this and it seems like only yesterday when I was a small boy in Kentucky. Our daughters are grown and have families of their own. My dad passed away last year and my mom is 82, so "Hello In There" has become very special over the last few years. May be because I'm a little older now, and hopefully a little wiser, I appreciate your music even more now than I did when I was young. I check your web-site often to see when you will be in an area that is somewhat near Milwaukee. Thank you very much for all you have contributed, which has enriched many many lives.

Took me years to get the association but the worlds largest shovel worked in my home of Chelsea, Okla as I was growing up - we used to go out at night and listen to music and watch the giant machine do its damage to our countrside. Damm I wish I would have had John on my stereo - "Paradise" would have been well Paradise to listen too. Always with a smile when I hear John.
